as such the public that are to be targeted with a message need to be defined. The internal public are those inside the organisation, primarily the employees and management. The
external public are those outside the organisation, the company will always seek to concentrate on a target audience whom the company want to influence (Bernays, 1972).
By looking at different functions in an organisation in terms of public relations there will be some that are focused ion the external public perception and
some on internal perceptions. However it should also be remembered that the groups are not always totally separated, internal public can also be external public and the message that is
sent to the external public will also be heard and interpreted by the internal public. If we consider relationship management this is
similar to employee relations, and may beth be seen as usually undertaken internally the employee relationship management with the employees and the relationship management with suppliers and contractors.
Looking at the employee relations there are many tools used to create a motivated workforce. Work of theorists such as Maslow and McGregor have
all shown that the employment relationship is impacted by the attitude of the employers and their perception of the way the employer behaved and treated them (Huczyniski and Buchanan, 2003).
