Within the fundamental framework of civilization reside a number of issues that serve to impede inter-cultural and gender communication. Considering the multitude of
cultural variance that exists throughout the world, it is quite easy to understand the inherent difficulties when one society attempts to communicate with another when there is only a minimum
of comprehension of the others language. The fact that language erects a significant communication barrier is quite easy to understand; with the dozens of various tongues spoken around the
world, it does not take much comprehension to accept this argument. Because this barrier exists, it is not a simple task to express oneself to a person of a
different heritage by utilizing speech alone. Anthropologist Edward T. Hall recognized the inherent differences between and among cultures, espousing the theory that certain cultural components are at the root of
inter-cultural communication breakdown. Hall postulated that the world is comprised of two fundamental cultural elements: monochronic and polychronic time. Americans, he contends, apply monochronic time in their quest
for punctuality, preciseness and scheduling that clearly represents "an outgrowth of the industrial revolution" (Hall, 1959, p. PG), while France, for example, is a polychronic cultures by way of its
importance of human relationships and interactions over stringent social boundaries. "Many things may occur at once (since many people are involved in everything), and interruptions are frequent" (Hall, 1959,
p. PG). When one examines the intrinsic elements of inter-cultural communication, the aspect of cultural temporality must also be addressed as it relates
