racism? Is it overt and conscious, or does it unconsciously exist as well? Glauser (1999) notes that ethnic "and racial groups are continuously shifting in the United States
and will continue to do so" (p. 62), highlighting the individuals need to become and remain more aware of his specific reactions to and perspectives of racial and ethnic differences.
Whereas Amodio, et al. (2004) question whether and where race exists physically, Glauser (1999) regards race more as a social construct than a physical characteristic. As such, whether
"intentional or unintentional, overt or covert, racism exists as a powerful force" (Glauser, 1999; p. 62). Method The study used a qualitative study
using a survey questionnaire for data collection. Questions were field-tested before being used for the final study. The order in which the questions are presented moves from very
broad to very narrow perspective. Questions travel from general thought to groups of people unknown to respondents, to acquaintances to friends. It would be counterproductive to ask participants
if they have friends of the race they are not, then ask if they have any trust issues with individuals of that race.
The participant group consists of well-educated middle-aged women ranging economically from working poor to upper middle class. All of the women are members of the same Bible study group
and can (and have) speak plainly with each other about issues of race. Nine women are white; four are black. Education levels span high school to terminal degrees.
Participant criteria include (1) age over 17; (2) at least a high school education; (3) Christian convictions and worldview. Results Raw data
