Properly implementing the new system can reduce the stress and friction that might be felt during the transitional period. An experience I had with introducing and implementing new technology came when I was working as a shift manager for a small restaurant Lady Brett and Jakes. The owners saw the need to adopt an electronic POS system with the goal to streamline the business and create an easier more efficient way of working. This paragraph helps the student present a hypothetical scenario upon which to develop the themes of the essay. As a small business, Lady Brett and Jakes were not always on the front lines where technological revolution was concerned. As it was, the idea of introducing an electronic POS system was met with skepticism by many of the staff. A POS system refers to the Point of Sale system that is a way to track sales, process orders, accept credit and debit cards, along with printing out checks, and cashing out orders. POS systems are often sophisticated technology that connects all parts of the restaurant together. Usually these systems are computers using touch screens that can, on first glance, appear a bit intimidating. One of the reasons companies decide to go with new technology is that it can streamline the business and the entire business process. In this case, the new computer system, the POS, would eliminate the use of hand written orders which were often times inefficient and not to mention barely legible (Smith, 2010).
