idea that birth control is not permitted. There are also some people, in particular cultures, who do not want to use condoms for example, but this is usually a tendency
aligned with personal preference. The methods of birth control on the market today include condoms for both genders, spermicides which come in cream, jelly or foam, the sponge, and the
diaphragm in addition to the pill ("Birth Control"). These are old stand-bys. A new version of the pill for example changes the number and length of periods. Other
methods of birth control, but less frequently used as such, include abstinence, Depo-Provera, and emergency contraception ("Birth Control"). Sterilization through tubal ligation is another method. Despite the fact that some
people choose not to use birth control, most western women today do use some form of it. For the most part, they get it from their pharmacists, whether or not
their insurance companies will cover the costs. After all, a baby costs much more than the money spent on condoms or a prescription drug. And condoms are after all promoted
as a lifesaving measure for sexually active teens. In some schools, condoms are even distributed. Yet, many insurance companies do not cover the cost of birth control and this is
a mistake. New legislation is necessary to require insurance companies to provide at least some method of contraception for their policy holders. In society today, the poor are often
able to get to the Emergency Room or clinic and are sometimes handed a prescription. The woman who asks for one to prevent pregnancy is handed a prescription for the
pill for example, but when she gets to the drug store counter realizes that this method of birth control is cost prohibitive. Perhaps she and her boyfriend use condoms sometimes,
