Threats can come in many different forms and fashions. For example, there are verbal threats in which someone says they may commit a malicious or harmful
act to someone or something. There are computer threats in which a virus may infect a PC or someones personal identity can be jeopardized by hackers. However, in the modern
era, one of the biggest threats to both the public and private sectors, especially the banking and financial industry, are what are known as insider threats. These are the type
of threats in which an employee of a bank or a client of a brokerage firm for example decides to threaten the institution by trying to steal money, issue demands
or commit some act of fraud. Nowadays, to protect themselves from insider threats, these financial institutions have implemented various software programs and security measures to not only thwart these kinds
of threats but prosecute the perpetrators to the full extent of the law. In addition, employers have been made aware of certain tips that may help trigger an insider to
act upon his or her threat against the institution. For example, studies have shown these threats typically occur after a negative event has transpired against the employee in the workplace.
