book Inside Rikers by Jennifer Wynn the author presents many different stories about inmates at this prison, and work written by the inmates. It is a study of what seems
to work for some, and how some programs do not work for others. It is a story about reality, humanity, and human nature. The following paper discusses various elements of
Wynns work. Inside Rikers by Jennifer Wynn Rikers Island is considered to be the largest, and perhaps harshest, penal colony in the world. It houses several jails and
has been a correction facility since the late 19th century. The author of this book, Jennifer Wynn, indicates in the introduction of the work that she first went to the
island to get information for a story, as she was a journalist. However, she later became involved in a program called Fresh Start wherein she began teaching a writing class
to the inmates. Almost all of the stories actually seem to offer the reader a sense or a picture of success on the part of the inmates chosen for
the book. But, within this book the author also points out some people who have had difficulty resolving many issues. At one point, in relationship to a failure in the
work, the author offers a look at Anthony wherein Wynn presents a look at a program called KEEP which demonstrates failure in a very large manner as they are still
apparently provided with a certain level of drugs to keep them from withdrawal. "Back then, I was horrified. Nothing about the program made sense. Even Marugas evaluation study showed
that 88% of KEEP participants and 85% of controls reported returning to heroin and/or cocaine use after release from Rikers. With an evaluation like that, youd think the program would
