the story slowly progresses she loses her mind and ends the story stuck in a place of insanity. The following paper examines her insanity, illustrating how her insanity actually liberates
her because she realistically has no other option. Insanity in The Yellow Wallpaper In this story the main character, the narrator, is a woman whose husband has taken
her to a country home so she can rest. In the very beginning of the story one gets an insightful and powerful look at the woman and her husband, their
relationship, and his distance from her: "John is practical in the extreme....John is a physician, and perhaps-(I would not say it to a living soul, of course, but this is
dead paper and a great relief to my mind)-perhaps that is one reason I do not get well faster" She then states, "You see he does not believe I am
sick!" (Gilman). In these lines, combined with a previous line wherein she states that he often laughs at her and her thoughts, one can see that he likely does not
love her in a true sense. He is married to her, but clearly does not know her and as such does not truly love her. He may love her as
a dutiful wife, but there is clearly no connection between the two, and in this one can see one of the most powerful foundations for her move towards insanity. If
her husband does not believe that something is wrong with her, is not supportive of her, not even allowing her to stay in the room she liked best, then there
is bound to be a part of her that understands she cannot find any escape in the real world. Her husband controls her, tells her to rest, insists she not
