being asked which include: Where do innovative ideas come from? How to work environments need to change in order to allow them to flourish? How can company leaders help to
sustain the environments and stimulants that lead to innovation? The four major considerations of innovation in todays work place are the scale, scope, support and sustainability. The traditional
importance of material resources has been replaced the intangibles that support innovation. Those intangibles have become socioeconomic resources in their own right, taking the privileged role that was once
accorded to raw material resources. These intangibles are creativity, knowledge and experience. Nations and locales that manage to nurture, reproduce and expand those resources are bound to become
sources of innovation. COMPANY BACKGROUND Dollond and Aitchison had been in business for nearly 250 years when in 1996, they found themselves in trouble. In those 250 years, Dollond
and Aitchison had expanded to having 263 branches throughout a vast area. However, there was a growing threat from rival opticians such as Vision Express, Boots and Specsavers and
others. These rival opticians were perceived by vision eye care and eyewear customers as providing faster, more efficient service and better value. When a consumer thought of Dollond and
Aitchison, they envisioned stuffy old men in white coats. They were experiencing a brand image problem and Dollond and Aitchisons share of the optical market was failing rapidly. Initially
