involved in innovations. It adopts technology quickly. One of the most controversial technologies Wal-Mart decided to adopt was RFID technology. It is still struggling with that one but many of
their suppliers did comply with Wal-Marts mandate to use it. As for the four elements Rogers identified, examples can be found in Wal-Marts operations. When the company was initially
founded, they purchased in large quantities and passed on savings to the customer, that was a new idea (Frank, 2006). As already mentioned, the adopt technology quickly when they believe
it will improve operations and make the company more efficient and more successful. These technologies increase efficiency and reduce costs. Wal-Mart has an excellent communication system and they continue to
seek new ideas from employees, many of which are adopted. In 2006, the company initiated a multi-tiered communication process. The new process was adopted to reduce turnover and to better
anticipate consumer trends (Millerwood Communications, 2007). The social system at Wal-Mart is an example of the type of communication that is normal for the company. The CEO and CFO meet
with the head of each major operation on a regular basis (MMR, 2005, p. 40). They acknowledge successes at these meetings but they spend more time on where they need
