On January 12, 2010 Haiti was shaken by one of the most devastating earthquakes of history. Because it hit in the most populated areas, the impacts of this earthquake
were phenomenal. The full impact of the earthquake, however, was not limited to earthquake itself. These secondary impacts revolved around the destruction of the very infrastructure of the
country that occurred with the hurricane, the human resources infrastructure and the technological infrastructure. Unfortunately, this infrastructure was lacking even before the hurricane. When what little that did
exist was destroyed the situation was simply overwhelming. The earthquake left thousands of people homeless and without even the most basic of
amenities such as sewage treatment facilities, food, and clean water (World Health Organization 349). Even before the earthquake, however, Haiti did not have the infrastructure in place to insure
human health. Indeed, in 2008 only seventy percent of Haitians living in towns had access to clean drinking water sources (World Health Organization 349). Only fifty percent of
Haitians living in the country had clean water (World Health Organization 349). Even sanitation facilities were lacking prior to the earthquake. Indeed only twenty-four percent of town dwellers
