From: Officer Melnyk Subject: Homicide Report - Date of Incident, January 31, 2007 Date: February 1, 2007 Background: At 1845 hours on January 31, 2006 Officers Melnyk and Hurley were dispatched to 227
Sherwood Street in answer to a call that a female at that address was unconscious and in need of medical assistance. The officers were familiar with the premises because it
is a crack house and they have responded there before. The officers arrived at 1851 hours and were met at the front door by Ted Ridges, DOB 19 August 1962.
Ridges lives at Apartment 4, 227 Sherwood Street. Ridges gave a statement to the effect that a woman was lying on the floor covered in blood, which the officers confirmed
by checking with Dispatch. At 1852 hours the officers were confronted by a woman who appeared to be hysterical, or under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. The woman was
yelling that a man identified as "Barry" beat up a woman. She does not identify the woman, but keeps yelling at "Barry," who is not responding. After attempting to calm
the woman down, the officers proceeded down the hallway to an apartment where the door is open. Upon entering the unit, the officers discovered the body of a woman lying
beside the bed. It appears that she was lying on the bed but fell off. Her head is bloody. At this point, which is approximately 1853 hours, the paramedics arrive
and the officers move to allow them access to the body. Also at this time the officers become aware that the woman in the hallway is still hysterical. She is
now running up and down the stairs, and the officers attempt to calm her down once again. In the course of this attempt, the officers became aware of a back
