be the result of the input information and the transformation process that places that information into a usable format. There are two main dangers, that of information quality and
that of information overload. Information quality may be a problem depending on both the input and the transformation process. If information that is input is inaccurate, this may occur in
areas such as the quotes given by the sales reps with computers, as such there needs to be some form of checking mechanism in place, to ensure all input is
accurate. The case study provided does indicate that the information that was required was already in the system and that the MIS system which is used is transcribing the
information into a usable format easily, as such this may not be the problem. The company has also found the value of clear information that can be produced when information
is correlated and then used. It is here that there may be the problem of information overload. In an organisation where useful information is produced that was not available
before this is seen as attractive, with an increased desire to gain information and an attitude to accompany it that assume more information is good. However information is only
useful if it can be acted upon. Where there is information overload there may be too much information produced that then requires time to analyse to make any decisions. This
may have the impact of delaying decision which can be harmful, or even increasing indecision. Bounded rationality limits the amount of information that can be processed by a decision maker.
This is likely to be the biggest problem Question 2 The use of information technology can give value in the way it provides information that can be acted upon.
