of an organization that has used IT to improve its environment, both in terms of its technical processes and general functions. For example, it has been noted that the firm
has been using e-business of late, something that it had never done before; indeed, Ford has jumped on the IT bandwagon ("Ford Motor Company launches," 2001). In many business settings,
IT is utilized in a myriad of ways. According to a student, some examples of how information technology is used include communication between employees and the creation of documents. Of
course, this is commonly done through many organizations, including Ford, as the computer is a mainstay of all businesses. Indeed, the old typewriter, stenographer and dictation machines are relics of
the past as personal computers replace older forms of communications. Seemingly, Ford has embraced this new type of technology not only to correspond and create letters or reports, but also
for other things. One individual at Ford notes that " the intensive use of information technology allowed Ford to accelerate a typical from-scratch vehicle development program from
more than four years to two" ("AFM," 2003). Here, it is suggested that IT has propelled Ford through the years much faster than the company could go without IT. It
is a claim that is quite logical as even ordinary individuals with a computer realize that IT does save time. Yet, while Goodnow does point out that IT saves time,
he does so quite specifically and emphatically, and exclaims: "We couldnt take 30 months out of the car otherwise" (2003). Ford clearly uses IT for things other than
the ordinary presentation or report or accounting function. Rather, Ford uses information technology to develop cars, make sure that the prototypes are cranked out at a fast rate, and so
