Sales and marketing in the wireless telephone industry has been and continues to be costly. Selecting and buying either a wireless device or service plan can be confusing at best. For the consumer, it is never simple and typically leaves the consumer wondering if s/he made the best choice. The consumer leaves a company-owned store or that of a licensed agent feeling much the same way; it is the process that is the problem from the consumers point of view. Whether the consumer is pleased or not, the company is paying for a storefront location and labor to staff it. Those costs are obvious for the company-owned store; for the agency store they are less direct but nevertheless still very real. Virtually all wireless telephone service providers have made it possible for consumers to shop online, but the complexity of the process (often combined with businesses poorly-designed, hard-to-navigate sites) generally has ensured that people buy and upgrade wireless telephones, accessories and service at either a company or agency store (Marek 16). Information systems help the salesperson complete the sale in a short amount of time while still providing the customer with solutions that meet the customers needs.
