system, however, is highly dependent upon the coordinated efforts of operational professionals such as database administrators, as well as strategic professionals such as IT directors. One of the more
important roles in an organization in respect to integration with information systems is that of the database administrator. In a very real sense, the database represents the core of any
modern information system installation; it is the nexus through which information can be remotely distributed and which allows for the flexibility, modularity, and web-based service architecture from which organizations derive
their advantages through information systems. An administrator in this capacity designs and develops the architecture of the database, and then ensures that it works well in conjunction with the network
as a whole and that access is facilitated for all those who require it; at times, the administrator will also be charged with ensuring that the channels of access are
appropriately secured and that the information in question can only be accessed by those with the appropriate credentials. The database administrator fulfills a role on the operational side of
information systems integration. In order to effectively integrate information systems into any modern organization, it is critical for both operational roles, those roles which oversee the day to day implementation
and maintenance of systems, as well as strategic roles, those roles which plan the broad long-term direction of the organization, to work in tandem with one another. In a health
