number of projects that are in process at any given time, these failures become very expensive for companies. The essay discusses the major reasons projects fail, most of those reasons
relate to people issues, including leadership and management of the project. The essay discusses the categories incorporated in a project as well as the phases in any project. Examples of
failed projects are included as lessons to be learned. In the analysis section, this report suggests the type of leadership style that seems to be most appropriate in todays
global and complex world. Transformational leadership is described and justified as the style that may have the greatest probability of project success. The characteristics of this type of leader are

projects? * How does leadership affect the success or failure of information technology projects? Literature Review Information systems technology projects fail at an alarming rate. The failure rate of
all projects falls between 66 percent and 90 percent depending on which survey data one relies on. Engle (2007) reported that 90 percent of all information technology projects do
not achieve their objectives on time and on budget. This may be the difference found in the data - projects may be completed but not on schedule or within their
budgets and/or they do not deliver all objectives. This failure is historic. Tichy and Bascom (2008) reported that surveys in the 1990s that revealed only 31 percent of projects delivered
