organizational results. In large-scale enterprises, these systems might be represented by different departments of the organization, each individually managed, but whose efforts must coincide appropriately with the efforts of the
other systems in order to produce results. This cohesion between the efforts of systems in an enterprise environment is only possible, however, if trust exists between those systems. Furthermore, trust
must exist between the organization and its customers. This presents certain logistical problems because trust is not always a natural response to profit-driven contexts to treat each agent acting within
the context with total trust. For instance, individuals may want to trust an organization that appears to be acting in their interest, but because this organization has a vested interest
in building trust (i.e. - attaining an advantage over its competitors), that trust can be difficult to come by. This paper will explore the nature of trust in an enterprise,
include how its developer, internal and external challenges to its existence, and how trust operates in a distributed system. One of the most difficult spheres of trust to manage is
that between the business and the customer. It has been written that "one of the main challenges of e-commerce is to maintain trust between the people engaging in transaction" such
that customers remain entirely satisfied with the level of trust they experience in transactions with the organization (Beekman & Beekman, 2010). This is attainable only if the organization is entirely
devoted to fostering a culture wherein trust is facilitated in all organizational systems, and is inherent in all organizational processes. This is the only way to ensure that all potential
