the books and perhaps make photocopies from a machine. Although people still do this for some book research, one can imagine that the library can be completely skipped or at
least, technology would enter the picture at least while at the library. Certainly, many full text books are available online either for a small charge, such as from Questia, or
for free, at sites like Googles Book search. Amazon.com also offers searchable books. While perhaps all text is not available at some of these sites, it is still possible to
do a significant amount of research online. This means that people need not leave their offices or homes in order to do different types of research. In the scenario
just provided, an individual who is retrieving information might actually be able to find books on computers or at the library itself. Many libraries today function in that manner, though
some older towns have antiquated systems. Most libraries will have individual patron information in the system as well as lists of books available. Many patrons can access the information from
their home computers so that they do not even have to go to the library to see if a book is on a library shelf. Obviously, individuals can call ahead,
but having access to the librarys database, through home computers is much more convenient. One problem is that sometimes the books are not physically there even if they are listed
