It is not just information per se that is important, the essential ingredient is the proper and appropriate use of information that will gain a competitive advantage in business and that will lead to personal individual success. In 1989, the Presidential Committee on Information Literacy said the emergence of the Information Age resulted in the greatest challenges to the society than had any other change (American Library Association, 2007). In that same year, "the Association of College and Research Libraries declared Information Literacy is a survival skill in the Information Age. A survival skill" (Scholarship, Practice and Leadership, 2007). The Presidential Committee suggested there is so much information available that one challenge is to sift through it to obtain the specific types of information one needs (American Library Association, 2007). Because information changes so rapidly and because information that is valid and true today may not be valid and true tomorrow, it is essential for individuals, groups, corporations, organizations, etc. to be involved in ongoing lifelong learning in order to be "up-to-date" (American Library Association, 2007). This suggests that at least certain individuals and organizations need to be reviewing the latest advances every day. This need expands to and incorporates advanced information technology. We all know that any computer we purchase today is obsolete before we even take it out of its box. This is true for all information technology, even wireless phones.
