Mexico (Cathedral Rock Corporation, 2009). The firm, which provides medical services, nursing care, assisted living aid and other services. In the environment that the firm operates within there are a
large number of potential influences. If presented as a diagram the use of a PEST framework could be used with the organization and the center and the influences from each
side. There are a number of political influences. Taxes are used to pay for Medicare, as such this turns funding into
a political issues. Recent cases of fraud undertaken by hospitals, such as the case in Minnesota where the hospital charge for patients overnight stays when they were treated as outpatients,
has brought it to the public and politicians attention showing that there needs to be change (Anonymous (a), 2009). The investigation and subsequent case has resulted in the hospitals agreeing
to pay $2.28 million as a result of over billing that amounted to $1.45 million (Anonymous (a), 2009). This, along with other cases has resulted in calls for greater
controls and anti fraud clauses to be in any healthcare legislation that is passed (Anonymous (b), 2009). This has been seen with Florida senator Mel Martinez who has introduced the
Senior and Taxpayers Obligation Protection (STOP) Act (S. 975) in May 2009 (Anonymous (b), 2009). The outcome of this is not yet known, but whatever occurs, with the changes
it is likely that the healthcare firms, such as Cathedral Rock Corporation, need to ensure they are fully compliant with legislation and can prove it, placing a higher administrative burden
on them, but needed in terms of public accountability. It is also likely that they will face further legislation and scrutiny in the future.
