more likely to vote their way. For example, one may suppose that an insurance company has given money to a gubernatorial campaign. Many people will suspect that perhaps if the
candidate becomes governor he or she will support the big insurance companies. Others say that this is not the case, but when it comes to politics, there is a great
deal of cynicism. Yet, is there any proof that campaign funding influences the voting records and decisions of agency officials? In a court case, Buckley v. Valeo, the court claimed
that indeed, large contributions provided to a campaign have the intention of gaining access to the politician so that he or she will be sympathetic to the contributors concern (Samples,157).
On some level, one might suggest that this is natural. If for example a business contributes to a candidates campaign and then that candidate is in a position to help
that business, he or she might remember the contribution. This of course is something that should not play a role. The idea is that the elected official is supposed to
do what is right for all concerned, and not only help a large contributor. On the other hand, many unions for example will support Democratic candidates as opposed to Republicans.
This is because Democrats notoriously support unions. On a large scale, there is nothing wrong with giving money to someone who will support a similar ideological view to the business,
as long as no favoritism is shown. An example is that someone who is an agency official and supports a policy that favors all unions is fine. However, if the
official does something to favor one union and not another, and that union is a big contributor, such an action may be construed as undue influence. In Buckley,
