faiths, Zoroastrianism. Zarathustra, the prophet of Zoroastrianism, began his teaching in what is today Iran--at the time, Persia--around 1200 BC (In search, 2003). The Zoroastrian prophets teachings incorporate a dualistic
worldview that is still evident in all three of the major faiths. During the time of Jesus, Zoroastrianism was the dominant world religion (Allen, 1998). Biblical scholars say that
the "wisemen from the East" in the New Testament stories of Jesus birth were meant to be recognized as Zoroastrian priests and that they were included in the nativity narrative
in order to "legitimize" the new messiah by showing that the dominant faith approved (Allen, 1998). The basic tenet of Zoroastrianism is that there are two spiritual beings in the
world who are in the midst of mortal combat for ultimate domination (Allen, 1998). The two spirits are Ahura Mazda, who represents good and everything ethical and the evil spirit
Anghra Mainya, which represents destruction (Allen, 1998). Stepaniants (2002) states that it was Zoroastrian dualism that prompted the concept of Satan, and also the existence of an array of angels
and demons. Ahura Mazda, the creator of life, is pictured as a powerful being who will ultimately triumph of evil, but it is also predicted that the good spirit will
not accomplish this task until the end of time (Stepaniants, 2002). According to Zoroastrian cosmology, the history of humanity consists of a twelve thousand-year period that can be divided into
four periods of three thousand years each. It is the birth of Zoroaster (aka Zarathustra), by whom salvation enters history, that begins to tip the tide of battle between good
and evil in favor of good (Stepaniants, 2002). Zoroaster calls upon humanity to fight on the side of Ahura Mazda. During the last thousands years of history, the dead will
