Essay / Research Paper Abstract
A 9 page paper discussing a case of Streptococcus a infection in an elderly woman following myocardial infarction and bypass surgery, in terms of Roy’s adaptation model. The Roy model imposes a responsibility on the part of the nurse(s) involved to adapt to changing conditions so that they can provide higher quality nursing care. The nurses of the medical/surgical floor are obliged to adapt to changing conditions and then to take steps to address conditions as they exist at any given time. The Roy model dictates that conditions will change; nurses are obliged to change with them. Bibliography lists 5 sources.

Sr. Callista Roy has provided nursing with a model that is quite useful in appropriate settings. It does not focus so much on the technological aspect of medicine
as it does on the emotional aspects of it. Roys Adaptation Model places the patient at the center of attention and addresses methods by which nurses can most effectively
care for, instruct, educate, comfort and offer explanations to their patients. Sr. Roy is credited with bringing new enlightenment to nursing, and her model of nursing is highly valued.
A quality of nursing theory is that no one theory is applicable to all situations at all times. As example, Dorothy Orems
self care model is highly useful with the elderly and those recovering from surgery or illness. Self care is not an issue that enters into acute or intensive care,
however. The aftereffects and changes that the patient may need to make following these conditions certainly qualify (Bryant, Corbett and Kutner, 2002), but self care is not an issue
on the day that an elderly woman falls in response to a myocardial infarction, has bypass surgery and develops a Streptococcus A infection. All care is the responsibility of
the medical team with which these patients have surrounded themselves. It is the patients responsibility to cooperate and do everything s/he is told to do, and it is the
responsibility of the nurse to provide all care at that time. Beyond that, the patient must learn to adapt to changing physical condition as s/he progresses toward recovery. The
Situation As stated, an elderly woman fells in response to a myocardial infarction, had bypass surgery and developed a Streptococcus A infection following
