problems. The primary purpose is to improve the quality of life at work. They deal with productivity, morale, working styles of managers and employees. They work with management on planning,
screening employees, policy development, training programs, and organizational development (Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor, 2012). Of course, they also do all general activities of psychologists. All aspects
of the industrial psychologists job are important. Many, in fact, overlap. If an employees productivity had dropped, the psychologist would investigate what the possible causes are: does the employee have
problems at home? Are they sick? Did something change in the department? When this happens it is important that the employee be told that his current work is not acceptable
and it must improve. This is usually done by the manager but the psychologist could meet with the employee with the manager. A plan is designed for the employees work
to improve with deadlines. The plan is written and all parties sign it. If the employee does not improve, a written warning is given. Finally, the employee will be dismissed
after three attempts to help him improve his productivity. This falls under both the productivity and organizational development responsibilities. Team morale involves morale, productivity, and management styles. If morale
is low, productivity will be low. They could be the result of a poor management style. It will be important for the industrial psychologist to observe what is going on
in the department and with the team. The first thing the psychologist needs to review is how much autonomy the team has. Teams with autonomy typically have a higher level
of morale and greater motivation to complete the project or task. The industrial psychologist actually needs to teach the manager how to improve team morale. This begins with giving
