the world, and specifically aligned with Indonesia. Of course, shadow puppetry has a unique and long history. That said, Dorai (2001) explains: "Puppet theatre is limited to a few places
in Indonesia and appears to be derived from ancestral worship " (p.79). Contrary to its reputation, shadow puppetry is not found all over Indonesia. One has to be knowledgeable about
where to find it. It should also be noted that this type of entertainment differs a great deal from ordinary puppet shows in that the shadows are the stars
and not the carved puppets themselves. First, what is shadow puppetry? Shadow puppetry happens to be an ancient type of puppetry where puppeteers manipulate flat puppets that are found between
a screen and a light source ("Shadow," 2004). The audience will watch from the front of the screen and their view will only witness the shadows that are moving (2004).
It is a black and white phenomenon where three dimensions or color does not enter the picture at all. Rather, the forms that are made are all that matter. They
are really illusions. Children have created their own shadow puppet shows off the cuff when they make pictures of birds or other objects on the wall as a flashlight illuminates
the scene. Adults have in fact excited children all over the world by showing them that they can create imagery related to something that does not really exist. It is
