Essay / Research Paper Abstract
6 pages in length. The Bill of Rights absolved any concerns over the absence of natural rights, as well as solidified the union between democracy and liberty. In short, it established the duty of government to "guarantee certain basic liberties, to protect the autonomy and liberty of the individual" (Grant 37A). Based upon ten fundamental properties of said natural rights, the Bill of Rights forged an unprecedented victory for an even stronger constitutional government. Individualism is one of the most highly sought after and hotly debated of all amendments; without the ability to pursue free enterprise and other capitalistic aspects, the very tenets of a democratic society would cease to exist. However, critics argue that when it was first inscribed into the Bill of Rights, none of the constitutional framers could have guessed the extent to which the selfishness of individualism has gone so as to actually become a detriment to society.
