Indians have impacted US culture in a diversity of ways. As more immigrants have arrived here, mainstream America has been exposed more and more to elements of Indian
culture. As is the case with all cultural interaction, Americans have absorbed certain components of Indian culture and Indians have absorbed certain element of ours. In most cases
the changes that have occurred have been largely superficial. In other cases, however, Indian influence has had a more important impact not just on American culture but also on
American economics and politics. When we consider Indian culture it is hard to move away from the stereotypical images that Hollywood
has engrained us with. Admittedly, however, many aspects of these stereotypes have a certain draw. Indian clothing, for example, has slowly made it impact on the way Americans
dress and regard dress. The flowing light weight clothing has been a welcome relief to many that found themselves confined to the more restrictive western types of dress.
Indian clothing has made its way here both directly in the form of imports and manufacture right here in the US by Indian immigrants but it has also made its
way here indirectly as the style has influenced Western clothing designers. Indian jewelry, body painting, and other aspects of Indian visual
culture have attracted many of our most popular entertainers and their interest in these aspects of Indian culture has, in turn, spawned even more interest from their fans.
