Essay / Research Paper Abstract
A 20 page paper presenting an interesting exercise: write of something “psychological” in a detailed and personal narrative describing a setting to which psychological principles can be applied. The paper describes the structure and the people of Parkview, a seniors’ independent living apartment building. Though Parkview does not offer assisted living, it does offer many conveniences of great value to the elderly, as well as the security that so many elderly people find comforting. Residents have their own private apartments, but they have built a community within the building, one that helps others when they need help and provides a rich social life for individuals. The paper uses Maslow’s hierarchy of needs as its psychological base. At Parkview, seniors are free to progress through all five levels of Maslow’s pyramid. Bibliography lists 10 sources.

week so they are relieved of that chore. The independent living arrangement provides the security of a support system yet preserves seniors dignity and ability to manage their own
affairs. Parkview Independent Living Apartments This single apartment building opened in late fall, 1998, and by January 1999 only six of its original

that they had believed they had seen. The area holds several full nursing homes, a resident hospice and several assisted living facilities primarily targeting Alzheimers victims. There was
