variables are linearly related. The least squares method produces estimates of the intercept and the slope of the regression line (Anonymous, 1997). Care should be taken to assess
how well the linear model fits the data. Calculate the standard error of the estimate that is the standard deviation of the error variable. "What if all error
is not random? Isnt it possible that some errors are systematic, that they hold across most or all of the members of a group?" (Trochim, 2002). Testing the
population slope to determine if there is evidence of a linear relationship is important as well, the strength of which is measured by the coefficients of correlation and determination.
When satisfied that the model is the proper one to be used, it can be used to predict the particular value and to estimate the expected value of the dependent
variable. In analyzing the relationship among interval scaled variables the statistical technique developed is called regression analysis, a technique that involves developing a
mathematical equation to analyze the relationship between the variable to be forecast and variables that the statistician believes are related to the forecast variable. It is important to realize
how this technique might be used in forecasting, for example, future therapy clientele based upon the age of the population in the area and the relative age of the clients.
