a beneficial resource in comprehensive strategy. II. STRATEGIC-ORIENTED POLICING Since a small subgroup of the larger population is responsible for criminal activity, targeting these certain populations helps to bring
closer focus upon where and how to implement strategic application. However, when working in conjunction with the community, it is necessary to engage the community in order to develop
and then maintain positive relations. The proactive, prevention-oriented approach of strategic-oriented policing is far superior - and generates far greater results - than the random area patrols that encompass
the general criminal population. All entities involved - community as well as lateral and downward law enforcement communication - are to collectively establish which groups or individuals are to
be targeted, what issues take priority and how strategy should be undertaken (Oliver, 2007). III. NEIGHBORHOOD-ORIENTED POLICING Maintaining the peace is no
longer an objective to be fulfilled by law enforcement; todays ever-escalating unruly and violent global society requires interactive, alternative approaches that incorporate the community as a whole. While there
are still departments whose focus has yet to become proactive rather than reactive, this department has the forward thinking authorities who understand the need to a community oriented policing agency
