that the Patriot Act is ultimately an invasion of peoples privacy and as such is a clear violation of the Constitution and freedoms. But, on the other hand there are
also numerous individuals who claim that freedom comes with a price and that sacrifices to ones freedom must be made at times in order to ensure the safety of the
nation and all who inhabit the nation. The following paper examines a particular case wherein the Patriot Act proved positive. In Favor of the Patriot Act While it
seems that, in all honesty, there are not many success stories involving the Patriot Act there is one infamous case concerning a terrorist, a case that President Bush used to
urge his Patriot Act back into play. As one author notes, "In that case, a terrorism task force employed provisions of the Patriot Act to track down a man who
was plotting attacks in New York and the Midwest. The man, Iyman Faris, pled guilty of plotting attacks on the Brooklyn Bridge (search) and an Ohio mall after he saw
the case against him" (Fox News, 2005). Such information clearly suggests that because of the Patriot Act the information was obtained and this is what led the criminal to plead
guilty. By using the Patriot act they were able to obtain information that could be shared in order to piece together what was going on with Faris and thus
understand his guilt and level of involvement. They had apparently utilized the act to uncover the plans of Faris which included seeing how New York could have been a target
(Fox News, 2005). Using the Patriot Act also allowed officials to see that he was reporting whatever he discovered back to Al Qaeda according to Bush (Fox News, 2005).
