a high level of self interest it is important o understand the way this may impact on teamwork in order to develop a suitable intervention. Van Vianena and De
Dreua, (2001, p97) identify three different indicators of team performance; personality composition, task cohesion and social cohesion, with the former two factors generally deemed to have a greater influence than
the latter, but all are needed for long term performance. It is notable that where there are strong personalities it has been noted that early results are likely to be
most effective where the team members are similar rather than diverse (Watson et al, 1993, p590). The research generally agrees that a team will need sufficient time for there to
be an effective teamwork environment, where the different stages of team building takes place; different models exist, but Tuckman defined these stages as forming, storming, norming and performing (Tuckman, 1965,
p384). In a case where a fast intervention is needed, the process which may have already started, and might have unsuccessful needs to be targeted. Aligned with the ideas of
Watson et al, this is most likely to be occurring in a team where there are diverse personalities. The need to create cohesion is essential, but it is noted
social cohesion can take time, and in a group where there are personality types such as a prince, a playboy and a wallflower, there are two personality types that are
