literature reveals several salient points: * Every new employee should feel absolutely welcomed and valued. * Businesses should allow and encourage the lines between orientation and training to blur.
Those organizations (such as Ritz-Carlton) that use orientation as an introduction to training and then reinforce the messages given to employees have proved to be quite successful in their results.
* Assign a "buddy" to the new employee. The intent is that a knowledgeable contact person can provide requested information right away as the new employee learns his way
around the company. Other suggestions include providing information about organizational theory - particularly as it applies to group formation and evolution - and
