Associated with Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, the hospital has seen the birth of several innovative procedures and breakthroughs. The fields of urology, pathology, and child psychiatry have been advanced dramatically by Johns Hopkins. Not only this, but the hospital is responsible for introducing commonly held hospital procedures such as rounds. Given the hospitals reputation it is no wonder that it sees well over 80,000 visitors every week (Johns Hopkins Medicine, 2010). This volume of visitors presents the hospital with an area ripe for improvement. Should a new system be implemented, the hospital staff will need to collect data concerning what time patients sign in at admissions, how long it takes for them to be admitted, and from there how long it takes to see a doctor and receive treatment. Another area of improvement that Johns Hopkins can put into motion is an improved community outreach program, one that focuses on families that cannot afford medical insurance. This way the community around the hospital and the medical school will see an improvement in health care and quality of life. In order to monitor improvement in these areas administrators will need to use patient surveys and focus groups.
