is really hard to know how people would think when they are in the state. Doctors claim that there is no thought and that people in a vegetative state are
reacting involuntarily. Yet, sometimes people come out of those states. They may find themselves in comas for example and then return to life, at least slowly, and sometimes this does
not occur for many years. Many incidents like these that occur prompt people to rethink their ideas about life and death and what the mind really is. Modern day
philosopher Eckhart Tolle, known for this book The Power of Now, claims that there is an observer. Someone is watching and it is not the mind. If someone thinks a
thought, one can witness his own thought process and that utilizes something other than the mind. When one thinks of the brain damaged, they realize that there is something more
than mere thought. Retarded citizens appear to be able to learn and be happy. Other situations render deeper thought. What if someone lost his or her memory, only to meet
up with the same people again? There are unusual stories about coincidences and how people with memory loss somehow find their way into similar occupations or situations or end up
forming a liaison with a long lost relative. So many uncanny things occur that one has to wonder whether or not the mind is who we are. Are people more
