The concept of outsourcing global security has a number of preconceptions, there are both advantages and disadvantages that are associated with the practice, but before
looking at the implications it is necessary to consider why and how outsourcing takes place. As a security firm seeking to gain outsourcing contracts it is essential to understand the
implications which exist concerning outsourcing of global security issues. Slide 2 The concept of global security is
of increasing importance as the world, and people in it, become more connected. The idea of security has shifted from a national to an international issue. While many national security
issues exist, they will often result in international outcomes. There are many examples. For example, the events on 9/11 can be seen as truly international, the causes and outcomes were
spread across many countries. Security risks may be planned in one area and manifest in another. This makes security an international issue, governments have to be able to work together
in order to identify and deal with those threats. If they do not then those who pose the threat have a significant advantage. Indeed Beck (2001) notes that this threat
is one that has the potential to align different government interests; global threats require a global response The threats in terms of
security include, but are not limited to war and terrorism. The situation is more complicated than in the past as todays global security threats do not emanate from the military,
but reflect a changing political environment where there are other influences in the way security is deal with including non governmental organizations (Terriff et al, 1999, p17).
