Essay / Research Paper Abstract
This 3 page paper considers what impact broadband technology will have on the design and development of multimedia. The paper undertakes this by first defining what the term multimedia means how it has been used and the constraints. education is framed and presented. The association between technology and the development of multimedia has taken a step forward with the advent of broadband. This high capacity medium has created
an environment where larger amount of data can be transferred reliability at fast speeds. As such broadband can be argued as revolutionising the design and development multimedia. In assessing
the overall impact we first need to define the terms we are using. The term multimedia is often associated with computers, and whilst this is one manifestation of multimedia it
is not this limited, or even this complicated. The term multimedia means that there is the use of more than two types of presentation media (Acab, 1996). Presentation media include
text, images, sound, video content, speech, and computer programmes (Acab, 1996). This means that when two or more are combined there is a multi media presentation. This means that
although the word is relatively new, the concept is not, television is a form of multimedia that is very well known (Acab, 1996).
When ideas are to be communicated it has been proven that multimedia is more absorbing as it takes up more attention, and also one that is more effective due
to the duel methods of information transfer from media to audience (Halsall, 2000). However, some forms are more efficient than others, for example, television maybe entertaining, but there is o
control over the speed at which it takes pace, and what is accessed, even the use of a video recording has limits due to the way in which the message
is received and perceived. In most of the older forms of multimedia, to which even a newspaper may be defined as due to the use of text and image, there
