Organizations of the Treadway Commission (COSO) should be useful in helping a company such as Dell. It has recently emerged that an internal investigation has been taking place at Dell
which has found "errors, evidence of misconduct, and deficiencies in the financial control environment" (Maurer, 2007). This caused the company to delay filing its annual reports past its 18 April
2007 deadline (Maurer, 2007). COSO provides a framework which any business can utilise when reviewing their financial procedures when introducing enterprise risk
management. When considering the potential implementation at Dell the focus of the measures introduced as part of the enterprise risk management (ERM) programme the are the internal processes. The process
is the way something is achieved; so in implementing ERM this may be seen as a tool but not a goal. It is also important to realise that internal control
is not merely a set of rules or policies it is impact it by the people at all levels within Dell (COSO, 2007).
By looking at the different components of ERM it is possible to consider the way system may be designed for Dell.
