of nursing focuses n the importance of culture and how its meaning should inform nursing practice (Juntunen, 2000). To implement a practice plan that encompasses culturally competent care according that
follows Leiningers theory, the cultural needs of Orthodox Jews were researched. This research revealed that modesty is a cultural concern of female patients, in regards to both Orthodox Jews
and Muslims. As these women generally cover their arms, wear long skirts and cover their heads, this should be taken into accord in providing for their needs. Therefore, they should
be provided with an additional hospital gown that provides covering in the back, also a grown with long sleeves should be offered. Extra blankets can be used to cover
their legs and, when possible, they should be allowed by hospital policy to wear their own head coverings, or they should be provided with a cap (Cassar, 2006). Orthodox Jewish
patients, in general, follow Kosher dietary customs. They are not allowed to eat milk and meat together at the same meal and other Kosher restrictions apply. Provisions for providing Kosher
meals to all Orthodox Jewish patients should be investigated by hospital administrators if they are not already in place. Furthermore, it is Orthodox Jews are required to wash their hands
and say special prayers before meals. This need should be accommodated by nursing care, which means that a nurse should provide a bowl of water and towel to an Orthodox
