Most often, however, the greatest impacts to worker morale comes from improper supervisory techniques. While supervisory techniques are most often intended to optimize work production, they can often result
in lowered worker morale and in fact be counterproductive to production. We can consider two fictional examples to illustrate the importance of supervision to worker morale and workplace production.
These examples are ABC Television Production Corporation and XYZ Call Centre. ABC Corporation produces color television sets while XYZ Call Centre is a central customer service firm that
services three different Internet based retail outlets. The majority of workers at each of these plants are lower level employees and each group has experienced significant blows to worker
morale for the entirety of their employee experience with their respective firms. Although the workplaces and work tasks are significantly different between these firms, the basic reasons behind decreased
worker morale are the same. Those reasons revolve around poor communication and coordination between management and staff. One of the first factors
of note in decreased worker morale at ABC and XYZ is that each firm has experienced a constant inundation of new technology. Technology, of course, is one of the
greatest shapers of management needs. Neither ABC nor XYZ have recognized this fact, however. Not only have they failed to train their employees properly for the utilization of
the respective assortments of technology that have flowed into the workplaces, they continue to try to run the companies as though they were still in the early twentieth century.
