influences actions and moral attitudes. Contrary to popular belief, although society and culture collectively leave their own imprint on how good and bad are distinguished, as perceptions change along
with the times, so does the interpretation of these value judgments. Therefore, in terms of how the good/bad spectrum is viewed, the determinations an individual makes may actually turn
out to be more subjective than objective. Classical literature features heroic protagonists that proudly display how a particular society conceived of good and bad. Two of the most
familiar are King Gilgamesh of Uruk, whose exploits are contained within the Sumerian tablets known as The Epic of Gilgamesh; and Odysseus, the mythical Greek warrior who appears in Homers
"The Iliad" but was forever immortalized in another Homer epic, "The Odyssey." These strong male characters lend themselves well to the study of good and bad because the ways
in which their actions are interpreted do not represent how good and bad was conceived by Gilgamesh, Odysseus or their respective societies, but instead reflect how they impact upon the
individuals concept of what good and bad should be. In terms of this particular argument, good will be described not as divine perfection, but in more human terms as
a willingness to learn from ones mistakes. Human beings are not gods; they are flawed but have the ability to be educated to become better people. Their lifes
journey is one toward enlightenment and understanding. From this writers perspective, bad will be defined as someone who refuses to compromise his sense of right and wrong for anything
or anyone. This is an individual for whom a journey to enlightenment is impossible because his mind is closed to other possibilities that may exist to improve a situation.
