and an organizations performance. They do not agree on exactly what that relationship is (Griffin & Moorhead 2007, p. 472; Hellriegel & Slocum 2007, p. 432; Scott et al. 2003,
p. 111). What is known about this relationship is that the organizational culture can have a significant effect on an organizations long-term fiscal performance; it may be the most important
factor determining success or failure for firms in the future; they are difficult to change but they can change if managers understand the importance of the culture (Hellriegel & Slocum
2008, p. 432). It makes sense that the culture will impact performance when we fully understand what organizational culture is. It is the personality of the organization. The culture is
comprised of all the written and unwritten values, beliefs and behavioral norms for the organization (Yazici 2009, p. 16). The culture tells employees how to get their work done. Numerous
empirical studies have found a positive correlation between a strong corporate culture and the firms performance (Yazici 2009, p. 16). In her own study which focused on projects, Yazici (2009)
found "that organizational culture has a significant influence on project performance and the long-term success of organizations" (p. 24). Hellriegel and Slocum (2007, p. 432) wrote that organizational culture
