be. II. LITERATURE REVIEW Todays organizations represent a transformed entity to their counterparts of just years ago in light of the ongoing trend to downsize and outsource. Contemporary
companies are caught between two harsh realities: skyrocketing operating costs and significant job loss. Being that profit margins are the fundamental principles for keeping any business afloat, it comes
as no surprise how HRM practices opt for cutting the workforce, a decision that heaves an extra load onto the shoulders of those whose jobs were spared. Sometimes a
staff is cut to little more than a skeleton crew when workloads are just as heavy, creating stress, anxiety and pressure for the employees expected to carry the burden.
According to Mathis and Jackson, the challenges of HRM are both vast and ongoing; the environment HR management must face on a daily basis is such "because changes are occurring
rapidly across a wide range of issues."1 Job satisfaction becomes a considerable issue with the remaining staff falling into a vicious cycle of angst and burnout. It is
not surprising how "citizens of the United States have the most severe problem with work-life balance,"2 a reality that often segues into stress and safety issues that impact job satisfaction.
