is often ignored or overlooked with health care providers focusing more on the physical health of patients (Turner and Kelly, 2000). They state that doctors are knowledgeable about the medical
part of care but they are not as knowledgeable about "the psychological, social, and cultural dimensions of illness and health" (Turner and Kelly, 2000, p. 124). Any person who
has a chronic disease or condition must make lifestyle changes, sometimes the changes are dramatic (Turner and Kelly, 2000; Soneja, Nagarkar and Dey, 1999). This is a very stressful event
(Soneja, Nagarkar and Dey, 1999). It represents a significant loss to them and as such, they experience a grieving period (Turner and Kelly, 2000). Some will adjust and some will
not adjust to their new lifestyles (Turner and Kelly, 2000). Many will experience severe depression (Turner and Kelly, 2000). The challenge with depression is that it is sometimes difficult to
diagnose (Turner and Kelly, 2000). For example, the same symptoms, such as sleep disruption, appetite changes, feeling tired or rapid mood changes may be the result of the disease of
medications or they could be a sign of depression (Turner and Kelly, 2000). Turner and Kelly (2000) state strongly that it is essential to treat depression as early
as possible. Thus, doctors must take the time to look at the whole patient and not just the physical parts. The other elements of life, such as the emotional, spiritual
