"lousy foreigners" who come in and take jobs away from deserving Americans. Since the economy has been depressed since 2000, immigrants and immigration have remained targets of discontent for nearly
a decade. Since 9/11, their status is more suspect than ever. This paper discusses some of the issue that are being discussed about immigration, both pro and con. Discussion Those
who support the idea that the U.S. should rigorously enforce its immigration policies and "meticulously scrutinize the immigrants admitted to the country" do so because they believe that most of
those who were involved in the 9/11 attack got into America by taking advantage of "the nations weak immigration enforcement system" (Krikorian). They believe that attempts to "de-link immigration control
from security" only serves to illustrate that many people dont understand the seriousness of the problem (Krikorian). The author points out that since there is no armed force on earth
that can hope to defeat the United States militarily, our enemies must resort to terrorism and "related tactics" (Krikorian). We have seen this prior to 9/11 in Africa and the
Middle East, but never before on American soil: the 9/11 attacks are the "brass ring" of such warfare (Krikorian). The burden of homeland defense is on governmental agencies such
as the Department of Homeland Security and similar bureaus, which are faced with a new kind of weapon: the terrorist himself, "especially in the case of suicide attackers" (Krikorian). Therefore,
its vital that we keep terrorists out or apprehend them after they get in, which means that increasing scrutiny of immigrants, or cutting back on immigrants rights, or cutting down
the quotas themselves is absolutely necessary (Krikorian). The other side of the question comes from an attorney, who reminds us that immediately after 9/11, "the United States national program to
