in the upper room. They were afraid the same fate would happen to them that happened to their Master. By the time of Pentecost, they all firmly believed that Jesus
Christ had truly risen and they were waiting for the time when they would be visited by the Spirit as Jesus had promised. On that fiftieth day, the wind shook
the house and they saw "tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them" (Acts 2:3). They could feel themselves being "filled with the Holy Spirit"
(Acts 2:3). This must have taken their fear away. They became brave enough to face the thousands who had gathered to hear them speak. When the Twelve began to
speak, the people in the crowd heard their words in their own language. People in the crowd came from far and near, many speaking different languages yet, when the Apostles
spoke, the people heard the words in their own language. There were plenty in the crowd who ridiculed the Apostles, accusing them of being drunk and it was that state
that allowed them to speak in different tongues (Acts 2:5-13). I wonder if anyone has ever questioned such a ridiculous notion, that being that if one is drunk they can
suddenly speak in another language? It was the only explanation those people could offer even though it was absurd. The Spirit had given Peter the courage and surety to speak
