This is perhaps due to the fact that novels are essentially fiction which is something that is founded on a sense of imagination. However, at the same time imagination itself
is something that is immersed in fantasy as well as something that is immersed in dreams concerning the real world. Without an imagination of how things could be many people
would do nothing with their lives. The following paper examines imagination of the fantasy and of realism as it relates to character and plot as seen in The Autobiography of
an Ex-Colored Man by James Weldon Johnson and Bread Givers by Anzia Yzierska. The Autobiography of an Ex-Coloured Man by James Weldon Johnson In Johnsons work the main character
is a man who is from white and African American ancestry. He is a mulatto that could pass for white and as such is in a very precarious and complicated
position in society. This is something that will continuously influence and direct where he will go in his life and how he will engage his imagination while pursuing his place
in life. Aside from that strong reality, and prior to a discussion of that aspect of the characters imagination, the reader is presented with the young mans fantasy of
imagination. In offering the reader such a look into the individual the reader is made to see the beauty of imagination as it relates to this character, and how this
character, and perhaps his plot as well, is founded on positive ideals. He talks about his first love stating, "I loved her as only a boy loves. I dreamed of
