historians), The Tempest, his technique had become more sophisticated and refined. Images no longer assaulted the senses with the intensity of a sledgehammer. Instead, in the twilight of
Shakespeares career, the images conjured in The Tempest were far more subtle and were masterfully contributed to a greater understanding of the play as a whole. For those who are
unfamiliar with The Tempest, its plot concerns an aging magician named Prospero, who had once been the Duke of Milan, before his brother Antonio conspired against him with the King
of Naples to usurp his rightful title. After being banished from his homeland, Prospero, along with his young daughter Miranda and councilor, Gonzalo, were exiled for a period of
twelve years on a deserted island. During this time, Prospero indulged in the practice of magical spells with the assistance of a fairy while taking it upon himself to
educate an impressionable native. The climax is reached when another group of shipwrecked passengers find themselves washed ashore on the island - a group ironically consisting of the very
men who had conspired against Prospero - Antonio, the King, the Kings brother Sebastian, and the Kings son Ferdinand. However, Shakespeares tale was not simply a literary blueprint for
the TV series, Gilligans Island. Its imagery revealed rich texture and deep meaning of the story Shakespeare wanted to tell. The Tempest is essentially a tale of justice,
