The conference opened with a review of newest statistics on child abuse within the state of Illinois and in the country, followed by a review
of the organizations activities in the past year of prevention and education programs and efforts. Educational Workshops Prevent Child Abuse Illinois provides a
variety of booklets and brochures to organizations and those working in public health, for the purpose of distributing to parents and those who have regular contact with at-risk populations.
All of these materials are free of charge so that they can reach the widest distribution possible within those populations where they are needed most.
Prevent Child Abuse Illinois depends heavily on its network of volunteers, one of which developed an educational program for parents from one of the organizations informational booklets.
The booklet, "About Disciplining Your Child," provides an overview for parents of what constitutes appropriate disciplinary measures, and offers suggestions for positive discipline that is constructive and beneficial for children
and does not cross into the realm of abuse. One of the conferences sponsors, the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, announced
